The latest progress in the National Development Strategy (NDS) was discussed at the second meeting of the National Steering Committee (NSC) on 15 October, 2009.
At the meeting, The General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP) reported on significant areas of progress in setting up the organisational framework of the NDS and gained approvals of recommendations going forward.

In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, GSDP launched Qatar’s Second Human Development Report (HDR), Advancing Sustainable Development, on July 8 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Doha.
The 2009 HDR focuses on the challenges of sustainable development in Qatar, including the interactions between water security, marine environment and climate change, and their implications for human development in Qatar.

The General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP) conducted its first Staff Retreat on the Enterprise Strategy Planning (ESP) process on May, 7 2009. GSDP senior management joined approximately 80 staff members and observers from other government agencies who participated in the half-day event held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

The Qatar National Vision 2030 envisages the private sector playing a critical role in helping the nation achieve sustainable development. To ensure that Qatar’s First National Development Strategy draws on the knowledge and experience across all sectors in Qatar, including the private sector, GSDP has been actively engaging with stakeholders, including conducting meetings with Government Ministries and Agencies and with potential strategic partners in the private sector, since the launch of the QNV 2030 in October 2008.

Confirming the importance of plans in supporting and activating the process of development in the GCC countries and in accordance with the decision of the ministerial committee for planning and development in its 18th. meeting in Qatar in June 2008 wherein it ratified holding the 13th. meeting of the personnel responsible for planning.
