The General Secretariat for Development Planning in co-operation with Qatar Statistical Authority and the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) are carrying out a field survey to gather the opinions of executive staff on the economic activities across companies and institutions in the mixed and private sector. The Executive Opinion Survey gathers data for economic factors that are of relevance to competitiveness: economic performance; government efficiency; business efficiency; infrastructure. Competitiveness falls within the framework of GSDP projects in alignment with the Qatar National Vision. Qatar will debut in the IMD World Competitiveness Report 2010. This report includes over 300 criteria and aims to:
• Evaluate Qatar’s economy through indicators that cover domestic economy, international trade, international investment, employment and prices.
• Show the extent to which government policies are conducive to competitiveness through indicators that cover public finance; fiscal policy, institutional framework, business legislation and societal framework.
• Show the extent to which the national environment encourages enterprises to perform in an innovative, profitable and responsible manner through indicators that cover productivity and efficiency, labour market, finance, management practices and attitudes and values.
• Show the extent to which basic, technological, scientific c and human resources meet the needs of business through indicators that cover basic infrastructure, technological infrastructure, scientific infrastructure, health and environment and education. This report will identify strengths and weakness in Qatar’s economy within the four main competitiveness factors; compare Qatar’s economy to that of 58 other nations, most of which are developed economies; showcase the characteristics and performance of Qatar’s economy and make it accessible to international investors.
