Within the context of GSDP’s mission, the Economic Development Department (EDD) participates in defining the economic vision and strategic economic direction for Qatar.  Subsequently, EDD helps GSDP leadership in expounding the economic dimensions of this vision and strategic plans to stakeholders. 

As part of its remit, EDD monitors Qatar’s economic development. In addition, it conducts researches and studies on macroeconomic management issues and choices relevant to Qatar’s long-term economic development. EDD, in adhering to GSDP policy, utilizes quality statistical data and empirical evidences, ensuring that its advice is anchored on good analysis.

To date, and having contributed to the formulation of the economic dimension of the National Development Strategy, EDD is focused on supporting and monitoring its implementation.

Qatar Economic Outlook 2011-2012

The General Secretariat for Development Planning (GSDP) expects Qatar to post growth of real gross domestic product (GDP) of 15.0% in 2011, propelled by further expansion of national hydrocarbon capacity. But it anticipates that growth will slow to 5.1% in 2012.
