Developing an Integrated Social Policy for Qatar |
|
Purpose The Qatar National Vision 2030 calls for strong cohesive families, an effective social protection system for all Qataris, effective public institutions and strong and active civil society organizations. The purpose of this project is to support the achievement of these Social Development Outcomes through the development of an integrated social policy for Qatar.
Social policy is an instrument to regulate and supplement market institutions and social structures. Whilst it is common for social policies to be linked to social services, such as education, health, employment and social protection and security, it is imperative that the definition of social policy is extended beyond the provision of the basic amenities - social policy is about distribution, protection and social justice for all men, women and children.
In light of the marked changes that Qatar is undergoing, including rapid modernization, rapid economic growth and rapid social change, the country needs to develop an Integrated Social Policy that will ensure a safe, secure and stable society with effective institutions and mechanisms.
Project Duration May 2008 – July 2010
