Social Development Department> Support Towards a Poverty Prevention Strategy in Qatar


Purpose
The Qatar National Vision 2030 calls for development that will enable the country to sustain a prosperous society, and to provide a high standard of living for current and future generations through a balanced management of its human, social, economic and environmental development.

This project is aimed at establishing a national strategy to prevent poverty in Qatar, in the light of and rapid social development and high levels of inflation.  The principal areas of focus will include:

  • Identifying relative poverty and its associated socio-economic implications, through poverty measurements and profiles relevant to Qatar
  • Developing strategies for monitoring and evaluating relative poverty in a rapidly changing economy
  • Exploring the concept of social capital in a Qatari setting. 

A better understanding of social interaction and social networks in Qatar society will help strengthen strategies in support of Qatar’s efforts to raise the living standards of its people.

  • Monograph detailing the output of this project, ie poverty measurements relevant to the low income and disadvantaged in Qatar
